Soursop Blood Sugar Lowering Sorbet
Managing blood sugar doesn’t have to mean skipping dessert. In fact, when you combine the right ingredients, your sweet treat can stabilize glucose, reduce inflammation, and even support long-term metabolic health.
This Blood Sugar Balance Sorbet is made with blueberries, soursop, and a touch of maple syrup—a cooling, antioxidant-rich blend that satisfies sugar cravings while supporting the very systems that regulate them.
As a pharmacist who teaches wellness through whole foods, this is one of my favorite functional recipes for those dealing with insulin resistance, PCOS, prediabetes, or hormone imbalance.
✨ Why This Sorbet Supports Healthy Blood Sugar
✔ Stabilizes post-meal glucose spikes
✔ Provides fiber and polyphenols that improve insulin sensitivity
✔ Reduces inflammation and supports cellular repair
✔ Nourishes the gut and supports liver detoxification
Let’s break down the benefits of each powerhouse ingredient:
🫐 Blueberries – Small But Mighty for Glucose Control
Blueberries are packed with anthocyanins, flavonoids that give them their deep color—and their blood sugar-lowering superpowers.
Benefits:
✔ Improve insulin sensitivity
✔ Reduce oxidative stress linked to metabolic syndrome
✔ Support gut microbiome diversity, which plays a role in glucose balance
🧪 Science Says: A 2010 study in the Journal of Nutrition found that daily blueberry consumption significantly improved insulin sensitivity in obese, insulin-resistant adults.
💚 Soursop – Gut-Healing & Anti-Inflammatory
Also known as graviola, soursop is rich in acetogenins, vitamin C, and dietary fiber, which support the gut-liver axis and help reduce systemic inflammation—two major players in blood sugar regulation.
Benefits:
✔ High in fiber – slows down sugar absorption
✔ Contains antioxidants that combat insulin-disrupting inflammation
✔ Supports gut and liver detox pathways essential for hormone balance
🧪 Science Says: According to a 2022 study in Frontiers in Pharmacology, soursop extract improved fasting blood glucose levels and protected pancreatic beta cells in diabetic models.
🍁 Maple Syrup – A Better Kind of Sweet
When used in moderation, pure maple syrup offers a natural sweetener alternative with actual nutritional value—unlike refined sugars.
Benefits:
✔ Lower glycemic index than table sugar
✔ Rich in polyphenols, manganese, and zinc
✔ May support metabolic health and inflammation reduction
🧪 Science Says: A 2016 study in the Journal of Functional Foods found that maple syrup contains phenolic compounds that may help regulate glucose metabolism and reduce inflammatory markers.

💡 Final Thoughts from Dr. Rachel
This isn’t just dessert—it’s a tool for balancing blood sugar, reducing inflammation, and supporting long-term metabolic health in the most delicious way possible.
Soursop and blueberry work together to nourish your gut, protect your pancreas, and regulate hormones. The small touch of maple syrup makes it taste indulgent—without the metabolic consequences.
Try it 2–3 times a week and track how your cravings, energy, and mood shift.

What you need
I used my Nama J2 and added the Sorbet attachment. If you do not have a Nama try using a food processor. You likely will have to add a little liquid to get it to a smooth consistency.
Freeze any leftovers for later.
